Children’s Eyeglasses and Sunglasses

Lenses   

One important feature to consider is the thickness of the lenses. Children’s eyeglasses should have lenses that are thin and lightweight, as thicker lenses can be heavy and uncomfortable for children to wear. Polycarbonate or Trivex lenses are good options for children’s eyeglasses, not only because they are lightweight, but they are also highly durable and impact resistant.   

Proper bridge fit  

Proper bridge fit is another important factor in children’s eyeglasses. The bridge of the glasses should fit comfortably on your child’s nose without sliding down or pinching. Look for glasses with adjustable nose pads or flexible bridges to ensure a good fit. Our opticians can work with your child to ensure their glasses have the proper bridge fit.   

Temple style   

The temple style of the eyeglasses is also important for children. Temples that are too long or too short can cause the glasses to slip off or be uncomfortable to wear. Look for glasses with temples that are the appropriate length for your child’s head size and shape. There are wraparound temple styles that are very helpful to keep the eyeglasses in place, especially for young children.   

Spring hinges   

Spring hinges are another useful feature to look for in children’s eyeglasses. These hinges allow the temples to flex, making the glasses more comfortable to wear and less likely to break.
